Townships outside Knysna

When we leave the upscale waterfront area of Knysna, we are confronted with the two faces of South Africa. The busy 4-lane N2 climbs up over a hill and both sides are lined with large townships. A sign at the bottom of the hill warns of a "High Accident Area" and on the top we understand why. In order to walk from one side of the township to the other - people need to cross a very busy 4-lane highway where cars drive fast. There is no cross-walk, no traffic light. That explains the accidents. You would think that a "walk bridge" would be an easy solution.
However, it is Sunday afternoon, the weather is great and many families have gathered at the township main entrance to hang out and have a good time.
