Start of our trip

We make our way back to Gros Ventre Junction and the bison that grazed in the fields last night are gone! Wow, that is a big relieve! The sky is clear blue. This will be a great first day on the bike!

Back on the main highway

We ride for about 5 miles along the busy Rt 26/89 to Moose Junction, where we turn on the Teton Park Road.

Moose Junction shopping center

Moose Junction is a great first stop if you need some supplies. Besides a well-stocked general store (great deli corner), there is an good outdoor store as well as a real bike shop. They do bike rentals too.

Teton Park Road

Although the road has a decent shoulder - soon there will be a special bike trail! In 2009, there will be a paved bike trail from Moose Junction all the way to Jenny Lake. That will make the riding even better!

Summer has arrived!

After a cold and wet spring, summer has finally arrived in Grand Teton NP! The mountains still have a good snow cover as they had a blizzard less than a week ago - dropping 2 feet of snow in the higher elevations.

Arriving at Jenny Lake Campground

It is only 32 miles to Jenny Lake campground - which gives us plenty of time to hike and bike around the lake in the afternoon. We put up the tent in one of the 10 walk-in (hikers or bikers only!) campsites. A prime spot to spend the day for only $9!

We hike for a couple of miles along the lake. The hike around the whole lake is about 6 miles.

Hidden Falls in Cascade Canyon

Once we reach Cascade Canyon, we hike up the trail to find the Hidden Falls. It is unbelievable how a fairly small creek can create this enormous waterfall!

Inspiration Point

The trail goes up higher into Cascade Canyon to come get this view from Inspiration Point.

We are hitting snow...

Once we start the downhill through the forest, we hit quite a bit of snow. It will be awhile before all of this is gone.

And more snow!

We encounter more snow and more slippery downhills, but make it safe back to the dock to return to the camping by shuttle boat.

A popular place for horseback riding

After the hike, we take the bicycles again to ride the one-way road from North Jenny Lake Junction to South Jenny Lake Junction. As a cyclist you can actually ride against the one-way direction, but we only found that out after we were done with our loop. A small "cyclists allowed" sign would have been helpful. Near Jenny Lake Lodge we come across these horse back riders.
